Jose Mourinho could be the one to finally end Tottenham’s drought for silverware this season, as the Special One could be set to prioritise the Europa League for the London club this season.
Spurs endured a dip in form in February and lost to Brighton, Chelsea, Manchester City and West Ham United before turning things around on the final day of the month in the 4-0 victory over Burnley. Although the team only recently lost to Arsenal, they have been on their way up in recent weeks.
The boys in white did well to finish at the top of their Europa League group, and also dominated Wolfsberger AC 8-1 in the Round of 32. They are currently up 2 goals in the Round of 16 fixture against Dinamo Zagreb and will be hoping to hold on or build on the lead to make it to the last eight.Â
In the Premier League, they find themselves in eighth place behind West Ham, Liverpool and Everton and given the current form of the rest of the league, a top four finish looks difficult. Especially considering that so many teams are vouching for a Champions League finish this season.
Mourinho could hence, kill two (at least) birds with one stone should he prioritise winning the Europa League above all else. This would not only ensure a place in the Champions League next season, but also end Tottenham’s drought for silverware. This would, in turn, make star players like Harry Kane more likely to stay at the club.
