Sony unveils the world’s first smartphone with 4K Display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Soc and has Triple Camera setup at the MWC 2019
Sony is a premium brand known for its premium end devices. It has been years that Sony is only making premium end smartphones which are top of the line products.
Sony’s XZ lineup is quiet popular among tech enthusiaists, and as we all know MWC is the place where new smartphones get evolved, so, Sony has also unveiled its new Xperia 1.
As Sony is known for its varied range of products, making innovation for them is quite expected. So, this time they have unveiled the world’s first smartphone with 4K Display and with 21:9 aspect ratio.

Xperia 1: An Elegant Powerhouse
The Sony Xperia 1 is a elegant device that has the perfect combo of premium design and some solid specs which makes it a flagship smartphone for 2019.
Design
The Xperia 1 keeps the premium look and feel that we generally see on every Xperia devices. It borrows the same aesthetics and durability of previous premium Xperia smartphones with a metal frame and Corning Corilla Glass 6 protection for the screen, as well as for the glass back.
Well, there’s no kinds of notch present on the device, neither any pop-up camera or slider mechanism, but the same normal top and bottom bezels that’s been reduced up to a decent extent.
Display
One of the main highlight of this smartphone is its display, the Xperia 1 is the world’s first smartphone to have a display with 4K resolution.
It features a huge 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display, along with 21:9 aspect ratio and 3840×1644 pixels resolution.
The screen here uses the same X1 image processing we’ve seen in Sony Bravia TVs that helps with the colour calibration of its monitor for better contrast and colour accuracy.
The Xperia 1 also has HDR support, with 21:9 content available on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Sony has even partnered with CineAlta for the Creator Mode, which allows you to watch movies and TV shows with enhanced colour accuracy.
Performance
Being a flagship device, the smartphone also is equipped with a premium end 7nm based Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Soc.
It is paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. You can even expand the storage further up to 512GB using a microSD card.
Camera
As the camera of this smartphone serve to be one of the major highlight, the Xperia 1 is the first smartphone by Sony to feature triple rear camera setup. So, the rear camera of this device seems solid as it packs in three 12MP sensors, which are:
- 12MP Exmor RS lens with 1/2.6” sensor size and has an f/1.6 aperture, and hybrid EIS-OIS stabilization
- 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens (16mm) with 1/3.4” sensor size and has an f/2.4 aperture, and 135-degrees FOV
- 12MP telephoto lens (52mm) with 1/ 3.4” sensor size and has an f/2.4 aperture, and hybrid EIS-OIS
The rear camera has a feature called Eye AutoFocus which is generally seen in Sony Alpha professional cameras. This allows the device to track a subject to keep the focus on them, even if they leave and re-enter the frame.
CineAlta has also made a Cinema Pro camera app available on the Xperia 1 for 21:9 video recording, help to select the colour profiles, and much more. The Xperia 1 has a basic 8MP front camera for capturing selfies.
OS & Battery
The Sony Xperia 1 bears a slightly skinned Android 9 Pie out of the box. It has great multitasking features like Side Sense and pair that allows you to open two apps simultaneously.
Being a premium device, the Xperia 1 has been IP68 rated for water as well as dust resistance. Also, there’s the feature of Dolby Atmos audio tuning and packs, a small yet enough for a day, 3,300mAh battery.
