On January 12, 2026, BTS member Kim Taehyung (V) achieved what no Korean male soloist has accomplished before—hitting 70 million Instagram followers on his @thv account. Even more impressive? He reached this unprecedented milestone with merely 150 posts, cementing his status as the fastest person globally to achieve this feat. As ARMYs worldwide celebrate with trending hashtags declaring “KING BEHAVIOUR,” this latest achievement adds another jewel to the crown of the idol nicknamed the “Instagram King.”

Taehyung’s Historic Instagram Journey

Breaking Down the Records That Define an Icon

Taehyung’s Instagram dominance isn’t accidental—it’s the result of strategic content curation combined with genuine artistic expression. Since opening his account alongside fellow BTS members in December 2021, he’s systematically shattered every growth record on the platform.

Guinness World Records Holder: In 2021, Taehyung earned two official Guinness World Records for being the fastest person to reach both 1 million and 10 million followers. These records remain unbroken, establishing him as Instagram’s most explosive debut performer.

Engagement Phenomenon: Beyond follower counts, Taehyung became the first person worldwide to surpass 10 million likes on every single post—a staggering consistency level that eludes even celebrities with hundreds of millions of followers. His Yeontan post (featuring his beloved dog) holds the record as the most-liked post by any Asian act, exceeding 20 million likes.

Global Influence Recognition: HypeAuditor analytics crowned Taehyung the 3rd most influential Instagrammer globally, surpassing megastars like Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift—making him the only Asian celebrity in this elite tier.

Post-Military Comeback Fuels Explosive Growth

Taehyung’s June 2025 military discharge sparked an immediate renaissance across his career. His Instagram growth accelerated dramatically through strategic brand partnerships and high-profile appearances that showcased his evolution from K-pop idol to global fashion icon.

Fashion Week Dominance: As CELINE’s global ambassador, Taehyung headlined their 2026 Printemps show in Paris (July 2025) and the brand’s Summer/Spring 2026 collection runway during Paris Fashion Week. His presence at Vogue World 2025: Hollywood made headlines when he wore a red jade belt—a traditional Korean accessory—with his grey ensemble, bringing cultural pride to international fashion.

Luxury Brand Ambassador Royalty: In July 2025, Coca-Cola Korea announced him as brand ambassador. His existing partnerships with CELINE and Cartier demonstrate his commercial power—when Cartier revealed his ambassadorship, their website crashed within an hour, and an 18k yellow gold necklace he wore sold out in minutes, marking a first in the century-old brand’s history.

Earned Media Value Champion: Between March and December 2023, Taehyung generated $274 million in Earned Media Value for CELINE through just 31 Instagram posts—demonstrating unprecedented return on investment that makes him one of the most valuable celebrity partners in luxury fashion.

Magazine Cover King: Four prestigious publications—ELLE Korea, W Korea, Arena HOMME+ Korea, and POP Magazine—featured Taehyung on covers that dominated bestseller charts. His W Korea and Vogue Japan collaborations for CELINE, plus GQ Korea for Cartier, consistently ranked in top three real-time bestsellers on platforms like Aladdin and Yes24.

Why This Milestone Matters Beyond Numbers

Taehyung’s Instagram success reflects broader shifts in how K-pop idols leverage social media for individual brand building. With BTS’s highly anticipated comeback scheduled for March 20, 2026, his solo platform strength positions him uniquely for both group activities and independent artistic pursuits.

His account remains the second-most followed male K-pop act on Instagram (after BTS’s group account with 77 million), while simultaneously being the most-followed Korean male soloist—a dual distinction that speaks to his individual star power within the world’s biggest music group.
