Behind the Scenes: Production Insights

Filming wrapped on December 19th after an intensive shoot primarily based in Birmingham’s Digbeth location, with additional scenes filmed in North Wales. Director Tom Harper, who helmed the first season’s second half, returns to complete Tommy’s journey. Creator Steven Knight expressed enthusiasm about the production, noting that setting the story during WWII allows the Peaky Blinders to face external and internal wars simultaneously.

The production’s economic impact on the West Midlands region has been significant, with the Mayor praising Netflix’s investment in local talent and the UK’s creative industries.

Why This Movie Matters for Fans

After the sixth season concluded in June 2022, fans wondered how the story would continue. The pandemic’s impact on production led to the decision to conclude Tommy Shelby’s arc with a film rather than a seventh season—a creative choice that allows for a cinematic, no-holds-barred finale. Steven Knight promised “explosive” storytelling with “no holds barred,” suggesting the movie will deliver the intensity fans expect.

Additionally, Netflix has already greenlit two new Peaky Blinders spin-off seasons beyond this film, ensuring the franchise’s legacy continues even after Tommy’s story concludes.
