Bayern Munich have reached total agreement with Dayot Upamecano regarding a transfer to Bavaria once the season ends, and the youngster will put pen to paper in the summer, as revealed by multiple sources.
RB Leipzig had a release clause worth €42.5 million in the Frenchman’s contract, which will be matched by Bayern and the transfer will go through once the money arrives.
Sporting Director, Hasan Salihamidžić also confirmed the news in quotes given to German news outlet Bild on Friday night.
“I can confirm that and we’re very happy about it at Bayern,” he said regarding a move for the Frenchman.
“We had very good, intense and professional discussions with the player and his agent Volker Struth for several months.
“We know we have a very tough competition. Upamecano is a young player, 22, whose qualities are already exceptionally developed.
“I was always convinced that we had with a good concept. We presented him with our vision of his career at Bayern.”
The 22-year-old is expected to stay with Bayern Munich till 2026, and RB Leipzig have found a replacement for the outgoing centre-back in the form of Mohamed Simakan, who joins the Red Bull Arena from Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.
Clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid were heavily linked with the centre-back’s services, but the recent sextuple winners were always leading the race for the defender’s signature, and now the deal has officially been announced after almost a year of speculation regarding Upamecano’s future.
