“Chennaiyin FC captain Rafael Crivellaro has been ruled out for the rest of the 2020-21 Indian Super League season following the injury he suffered to his left ankle against ATK Mohun Bagan on Tuesday December 29th, 2020.

“Following assessment by the club’s medical team, it has been learned that Rafael has suffered a ligamentous injury on his left ankle which will rule him out for at least two months and he will now return home to Brazil.

“Everyone at CFC wishes Rafael a speedy recovery. The club is working on signing a replacement player. The club will not make any further comment.”

The South Indian club find themselves in 8th place at this stage of the 20/21 edition of the ISL, and most recently suffered a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Hyderabad FC.

An awful tackle by ATKMB’s Pronay Halder saw him get booked by the referee in the 63rd minute, and Crivellaro had to be taken off due to the damage sustained by the player.

The number 10 has only managed to provide a solitary goal and assist in his 7 outings for the club this season. However, it is his leadership qualities paired with his creative talent that makes Crivellaro such an important player for the team.

Chennaiyin will be hoping to turn things around in their next match in the ISL against Odisha, who sit at the bottom of the table.
