We are going to get another biopic of legendary cricketer Muthiah Muralidharan, titled ‘800’.  You can see that the first look of ‘800’, a biopic on former cricketer Muthaiah Muralitharan, directed by MS Sripathy, has been released on the star cricketer’s birthday today. The actor Madhur Mittal of ‘Slumdog Millionaire fame plays the titular character Muthaiah Muralitharan, and Mahima Nambiyar appears as Madhimalar. the sportsman turns 51 in 2023. The name of the biopic has been titled after the record number of wickets, Muthiah Muralidgharan had taken in Test Cricket in his career.

The ‘800’ in the title denotes the number of wickets taken by Muralitharan in test matches, the maximum number of wickets in history by any bowler. Director MS Sripathy is a former associate of Tamil filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, who made his directorial debut with the film ‘Kanimozhi’ (2010).

Who is Muthaiah Muralitharan?  

Muthaiah Muralitharan is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest spin bowlers in the history of the game. Born on April 17, 1972, in Kandy, Sri Lanka, Muralitharan made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 1992 and went on to become one of the most successful cricketers of all time. 

Muralitharan’s career spanned over two decades, during which he played 133 Tests, 350 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 12 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for Sri Lanka. He is the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, having taken 800 wickets in 133 matches at an average of 22.72. He is also the leading wicket-taker in ODI cricket, having taken 534 wickets in 350 matches at an average of 23.08. 

Muralitharan was a master of spin bowling, with the ability to spin the ball sharply and deceive even the best of batsmen. He was particularly known for his doosra, a delivery that turns away from right-handed batsmen, which he developed after being called for throwing early in his career. Muralitharan’s doosra was considered to be one of the most difficult deliveries to pick in world cricket. 

Apart from his bowling skills, Muralitharan was also known for his work ethic and his ability to adapt to different conditions. He played a key role in Sri Lanka’s triumph in the 1996 World Cup, taking 7 wickets in the final against Australia. He was also a part of the Sri Lankan team that reached the final of the 2007 World Cup. 

Muralitharan received several awards and accolades during his career, including the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1999, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2000 and 2006, and the ICC Test Player of the Year in 2008. He was also awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by the British government in 1999 for his services to cricket.

In addition to his international career, Muralitharan also played for various domestic teams, including Lancashire, Kent, and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He retired from international cricket in 2011 and from all forms of cricket in 2014. 

Muralitharan’s legacy in the game of cricket is unparalleled, and he remains an inspiration for young cricketers around the world. He is also involved in various charitable activities through the Foundation of Goodness, an organization he founded to promote rural development in Sri Lanka.

The film also stars Narain, Nasser, Vela Ramamurty, Riythvika, Vadivukkarasi, Arul Doss, Hari Krishnan, Yog Japyee, and Sharath Lohitashwa in important roles. The film’s shooting is completed, and it has been shot across Sri Lanka, Chennai, Cochin, England, and Australia.

Cricketer Muthaiah Muralitharan is definitely one of the most inspiring and promising icons of all time in the world of cricket and has never missed amusing everyone with his unparalleled sportsmanship skills. The talented cricketer’s biopic titled ‘800’ is produced by Movie Train Motion Pictures. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and English. The exact release date of the film has not yet been declared.
