The IPL hopes of eight U19 World Cup champions are going to be dashed. Shaikh Rasheed, Dinesh Bana, Ravi Kumar, and eight other young guns are ‘ineligible’ for the IPL Auction in Bengaluru, according to BCCI rules. The kids have now petitioned with the BCCI to consider them for the auction.

About the Eligibility for IPL

According to The Indian Express, if the BCCI’s existing eligibility standards are followed, eight members of the World Cup squad will be ineligible for auctions. Dinesh Bana of Haryana, a wicketkeeper-batter who has recently become a phenomenon, and Shaikh Rasheed of Andhra Pradesh, who played a match-winning knock in the final, are among the names on this list.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Manav Parakh, Nishant Sindhu, Grav Sangwan, Shaikh Rasheed, Dinesh Bana, Ravi Kumar, and Siddarth Yadav are among the 8 players that have failed to meet the IPL auction criterion. According to the competition’s rules, an uncapped player is only eligible for auction if he meets one of two criteria:

  • The player must be at least 19 years old.
  • If he is a U19 player, he should have played in at least one senior-level first-class game or a List A game for his state team.

The eight U19 cricketers mentioned do not meet these requirements.

Requesting BCCI to Reconsider

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, domestic Under-19 competitions were obliged to run concurrently with senior-level competitions, preventing many of India’s U19 talents from playing for their state’s senior squad. Given their recent successes, many have urged the BCCI to change its regulation to allow these eight players to participate in the auction pool.

BCCI administrator Ratnakar Shetty said: “I feel the BCCI should consider this as a special case and the players should not lose out because of this. The team has done well and they should not be deprived of the opportunity.”

If the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not change this regulation for the IPL 2022 auction on the 12th and 13th of February, a total of eight members of Yash Dhull’s team will be ineligible to go under the hammer.

The India U19 team won the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2022 after defeating England U19 by four wickets in the final. Following a tremendous campaign, Yash Dhull’s team’s youthful and promising prospects were all expected to receive IPL contracts. Their chances of landing IPL contracts now hinge on BCCI’s response to their petition.
