5G might hurt as much as 20% battery life for iPhone 12 series

Apple introduced us with the new iPhone 12 series, which is the first to sport 5G connectivity, seems to be in spotlight for some time now as people are waiting to get their hands-on with the next-gen iPhones. Obviously, 5G will remain the sole point to upgrade for a lot of people, however, this feature might end up eating some battery as well.

As per the report from Tom’s Guide, these new iPhones seem to drain more battery and even more than the 5G based Android smartphones. In their test we see there’s almost 20% more drain in battery while using 5G over 4G connectivity.

In this kind of situation it makes no sense for Apple to reduce battery sizes over last generation as with 5G the need for battery has increased drastically, not even giving a full 10 hours screen on time. Apple does have that automatic 5G to 4G network switch but that works in certain scenarios only.

So, if you want to juice the max battery out of your new iPhone, do switch to 4G manually to get the max out of it. The new iPhone 12 even falls behind the 5G enabled Android flagships like Galaxy S20 or OnePlus 8T or Pixel 5.

Apple needs to fix this somehow via update or something like that to make for the cut in the battery sizes this time.
