Barcelona could have to deal with an injury crisis after the international break, with as many as five players picking up injuries during the break.
Dutch duo Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembele have all been sidelined for the time being. However, Dembele’s problems appeared before he left for the national team.
Barcelona could have injury crisis on their hands soon
Ronald Araujo’s injury could prove to be the most significant for Xavi, due to his impressive form. Uruguay manager Diego Alonso offered an update on Araujo, saying:
“Ronald had discomfort in his right leg. We will immediately speak with Barca to determine the steps to follow.”
De Jong was subbed off at half time with an issue, while Depay was taken off in the 52nd minute due to a hamstring injury. Jules Kounde’s thigh problem also caused him to be subbed off during the game against Austria.
While all five Barcelona players being injured will be a big blow to Xavi, the manager has replacements for all the players. Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia could step up in central defense, while Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati can cover on the wings.
Barcelona also have no shortage of options in midfield to cover for their injured players while they recover.
