The Toyota Fortuner is a highly sought-after choice in many international markets. In India, it currently holds the top position in the large SUV segment and competes with rivals like the MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Jeep Meridian.
Looking ahead to the 2024 model, the new Toyota Fortuner is set to undergo significant changes. It will feature a more rugged and sharp exterior design compared to its predecessor. Toyota is adopting a fresh design language, similar to what they’ve introduced with the Tacoma in the US market. Both the next-gen Fortuner and the Hilux will share a similar aesthetic.
The 2024 Toyota Fortuner SUV New Features
These changes encompass a revamped front grille, headlamps, and LED daytime running lights. The SUV will sport a robust appearance, boasting a noticeable air intake and a wider skid plate, giving it a rugged profile ready to tackle various terrains. The body of the SUV will exhibit distinctive sharp paneling with bold grooves and lines. This chiseled appearance extends across the hood, flared wheel arches, door panels, and substantial body cladding. New sporty alloy wheels will complement the package. At the rear, there will be adjustments to the design of the tail lamps and bumper. Notably, genuine metallic skid plates will be utilized both at the front and rear, departing from the faux units seen in smaller SUVs.
Although details about the interior remain undisclosed, it’s expected that the new-generation Toyota Fortuner will come with numerous updates. These may include features such as ventilated front seats, a sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, premium materials, and multi-zone climate control. A host of technological enhancements, including internet-connected smart features, is also anticipated. Safety will be elevated with an array of advanced driver-assistance features. The new-generation Fortuner is expected to offer spacious interiors, as it will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform, currently used in models like the Land Cruiser, Tundra, and Lexus LX. The transition to this new platform is also likely to improve the vehicle’s driving dynamics.
Furthermore, it has been officially confirmed that the new Toyota Fortuner will feature a mild-hybrid powertrain, applicable across all markets. The vehicle is expected to utilize a 48v mild-hybrid powertrain, a configuration also available with the new Hilux.
Toyota has unveiled an E100-capable Fortuner, running on 100% ethanol, although this version may take time to become mainstream. The introduction of the Fortuner mild-hybrid aligns with Toyota’s strategy to offer effective alternatives to fully electric vehicles. This hybrid setup will be paired with the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, currently delivering 204 PS of maximum power.
Torque output stands at 420 Nm with the manual transmission and 500 Nm with the automatic transmission. The Fortuner is also offered with a 2.7-litre petrol engine generating 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque, available with transmission choices of 5MT and 6AT. The new-gen Fortuner is set to make its global debut early next year, with an expected launch in India around mid-2024. Due to the substantial updates, a price increase is likely for the next-generation Fortuner.
