Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Dzire in India and the car has already established a fresh safety benchmark as it is bagged five-star adult occupant protection and four-star child occupant safety rating in Global NCAP’s voluntary crash test. As a result, the Dzire becomes the first-ever Marut Suzuki car to score such high crash-test ratings and this indicates Maruti’s extra attention towards safety standards.

Standard equipment on the Dzire includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection. Mostly frontal and side-impact testing by Euro NCAP, but also the ESC tests and those for pedestrian protection. Side pole impact tests were also conducted to earn top-tier ratings.

Structurally, the Dzire has been rated stable and can take further load. All seating positions are equipped with three-point seat belts and, as standard, i-Size anchorages for improved occupant protection. It was rated marginal in the frontal crash test for driver chest protection but earned full marks for head protection in the pole test and total marks for adult passenger safety in side impact testing.

The 18-month dummy demonstrated complete protection and the three-year-old dummy had high head and chest protection for child protection. A rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS) would perform better in terms of neck protection. Full protection for child occupants is also included in this test.

David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, commended Maruti Suzuki for the Dzire’s five-star rating, calling it a significant improvement over previous models and a potential game changer for vehicle safety in India. The 2024 Dzire makes a giant leap over its predecessor, which managed just a two-star crash rating, for occupant protection and child occupants as well as structural integrity. Getting the brand to start using safer tech is certainly a step in the right direction for Maruti Suzuki as well as improved safety for all consumers in India.
