WPL 2023 player auction to take place in the second week of February

After the auction for franchise ownership got done, it is time for the player auction of WPL. BCCI has stated that instead of going with the draft procedure, an auction will be held just like the Indian Premier League.

Women’s cricket has gained a lot of attention in the past few years and starting a T20 league for female cricketers will increase and make it even more mainstream. Just like IPL, the WIPL is going to give lesser-known cricketers more opportunities to get featured in the national team. The top female cricketers around the world will be participating in this league.

WPL 2023 player auction to take place in the second week of February

BCCI will be hosting the player auction in New Delhi in the second week of February. An interesting bidding competition is going to take place among the five franchise owners. However, BCCI hasn’t yet revealed the auction date of the league. The team list is ready and the league will have 22 games between the five cubs in total. Unlike IPL, this league will take place in Maharashtra.

The teams can select up to 15-18 players. A total of 5 foreign players will be there in the Playing XI out of which one player will be from the associate nation. The players who will not be selected but are in the “Registered Available Player Pool” will have an opportunity to play as a replacement.

Each franchise will have a salary purse of Rs 12 crore and approximately 150 players are expected to be there. The base price for uncapped players is Rs. 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. On the other hand, the capped players will have a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, and Rs 50 lakh.

Indian players who can get higher bids are Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, SHafali Verma, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, etc.

  • Lucknow (owned by Capri Global Holdings Private Limited)
