NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Laptop GPU pre-orders to go live on Feb 1st 2023

Pre-orders for NVIDIA’s high-end GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 laptops will open a full week before their release. NVIDIA unveiled its entire GeForce RTX 40 laptop lineup at CES 2023, including the high-end RTX 4090 / RTX 4080 laptop chips and the mainstream RTX 4070 / RTX 4060 / RTX 4050 laptop chips. The enthusiast-class GPUs are intended to provide the most premium gaming experience, with prices beginning at 1999 USD and availability expected on February 8th.

According to ITHome, pre-orders for the vast majority of these laptops will begin on February 1st, a full week before the retail launch. Early benchmarks show that the GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 have respectable performance figures. The RTX 4090 laptop is roughly equivalent to the RTX 3090 (Desktop), and the RTX 4080 is roughly equivalent to the RTX 3080 12 GB (Desktop) graphics card.

NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace GPU architecture has demonstrated some incredible efficiency feats on the desktop lineup, and we can expect similar numbers from the mobility lineup, even if these parts are rated at up to 175W TGP (25W Dynamic Boost).

Each laptop will also have its own heatsink and cooling solution, as well as its own power/thermal limits, which can have a significant impact on the final graphics performance of the GeForce RTX 40 laptop GPUs.

The flagship NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 will include the NVIDIA AD103 GPU core with 76 SMs or 9728 CUDA cores, the same core configuration as the desktop-class RTX 4080, and TGP options ranging from 150W to 175W (+25W Dynamic Boost). The 150W TGP target will have a base clock range of 1590 MHz and a boost clock range of 2040 MHz. There’s also a 25W Dynamic Boost that can push the TGPs up to 200W, allowing for boost clocks.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB has 58 SMs with 7424 cores and a memory configuration with a 12 GB GDDR6 capacity running across a 192-bit interface. The GPU is the Ada AD104 design, which is a scaled-down version of the chip used in the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Desktop graphics card. In fact, the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU has nearly 24% fewer cores than the RTX 4080 desktop graphics card.

The GPU will have a similar TGP range but will use the AD104 GPU core. The GPU will have a TGP range of 150W to 175W, with a base clock of 1.86 GHz and a boost clock of 2.28 GHz for the 150W target. The RTX 4080 will also get a 25W Dynamic Boost range boost. The higher-end GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Laptops are set to be released on February 8th, with starting prices of $1999 USD.
