Matheus Cunha makes Wolves move permanent after €50 million clause triggered

Wolves have made the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid permanent after triggering a bizarre clause that they had agreed upon.

Based on several reports, the player only needed to make three appearances for the English club to make his loan move permanent. As a result, Wolves have had to pay Atletico Madrid an eye-catching sum worth €50 million to make the loan deal a permanent move.

Matheus Cunha joins Wolves permanently from Atletico Madrid

The forward has already played in three competitions, making appearances versus Aston Villa in the Premier League, Liverpool in the FA Cup and Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. However, all of his appearances have been from the bench and he is yet to start a game under Julen Lopetegui.

His time at Atletico Madrid did not go according to plan, with the striker struggling to get consistent game time. And even when he had the opportunity, he struggled to come up with an end product to help the scoreboard.

Matheus Cunha could make his first start for his new club against West Ham United at the Molineux in their next Premier League game.

The strange clause that Wolves had agreed to is confusing to say the least. But after the injury to Sasa Kalajdzic in his very first appearance, they cannot be blamed for ensuring that the strikers make it through their first game at the very least.

The Midlands club have really struggled this season, especially in terms of attacking output. Raul Jimenez has not been the same since his skull injury, while Diego Costa has also failed to find the back of the net since his return to the Premier League. Kalajdzic was expected to be the solution, but he has also been ruled out for a long time. And now, their fans will be counting upon Cunha to step up and deliver the much-needed goals to avoid the drop.
