FC Barcelona defeated Real Betis 4-2 on penalties to set up Supercopa El Clasico

Barcelona defeated Copa del Rey winners Real Betis to advance to the finals of the 2022 Supercopa de Espana. They will be facing their arch-rivals Real Madrid in the deciding fixture in Saudi Arabia.

The second semi-final had to be decided on penalties, like the first tie between Real Madrid and Valencia. Barcelona won their shootout 4-2 after outfield play finished 2-2 between the teams following extra time.

Robert Lewandowski scored the opener, after tapping in a blocked shot from point blank range. The Catalonian side looked lively from the very beginning, and were able to cause a lot of troubles to their opposition.

Midway through the second half, Nabil Fekir was able to equalise for his side, scoring after being found by Luiz Henrique. At the end of 90 minutes, the two teams finished 1-1 with 30 minutes more to be played.

Ansu Fati scored first in extra time, with a first time finish to beat the keeper after the ball was up for contest. The youngster had enough time to bring it down and control it after it was cleared off, but he decided to strike it directly and was able to find the net.

Henrique got his second assist of the night by setting up Loren Moron to make it 2-2. And despite Andres Guardado being sent off, Barcelona were not able to capitalise on the man advantage.

Two saves from Marc Andre ter Stegen in the shootout were enough to win them the hard-fought match. And they now have a clash against Real Madrid on Sunday to prepare for.
