AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPUs have officially been released!

AMD has made their Zen 4 3D V-Cache range official, which comprises the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. AMD Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache CPUs are the second generation consumer V-Cache chips with stacked cache. While the Zen 3 lineup only has one 3D V-Cache SKU, the Zen 4 lineup will have three at radically different costs.

To begin, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D will be the flagship and the first 16-core CPU to utilise 3D V-Cache technology. The chip will have 32 threads, 144 MB of cache (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache, and 16 MB L2), with a TDP of 120W. The chip’s base clock is rated at 4.2 GHz, which is 300 MHz slower than the normal 7950X, however boost clocks are rated at the same 5.7 GHz. This should explain why the TDP is 50W lower on the Non-3D component.

AMD arranges the 3D V-Cache architecture on the Ryzen 9 X3D components by placing the SRAM cache on a single CCD rather than both CCDs. As a result, AMD may enhance gaming performance with a single CCD while preserving the additional die to benefit from greater clock speeds (1T).

This means that, unlike the previous generation, there should be a mix between single-threaded gaming performance and multi-threaded apps without sacrificing overall clock rates. Because this is primarily a gaming chip, the cache die is the most critical feature to optimise. It will be fascinating to see how things play out in the final retail units, as well as how far AMD allows tuning on the new parts.

The second processor is the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, which has 12 cores and 24 threads. This is likewise a two-CCD arrangement, with one CCD equipped with the V-Cache and the other without.

The chip has 140 MB of cache (64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache, and 12 MB L2). The base clock is rated at 4.4 GHz, which is 200 MHz slower than the Non-3D SKU, and the boost clock remains at 5.6 GHz. The CPU has a TDP of 120W as well.

Finally, we have the Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s replacement and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. With 8 cores, 16 threads, and the same 104 MB of cache (32 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 8 MB L2), this CPU is great for gamers. The CPU has a base clock of roughly 4 GHz, which is at least 500 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X, and a boost rate of 5.0 GHz, which is 400 MHz slower.

AMD claims a 30% performance boost for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D over the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The titles utilised are cherry-picked, and AMD isn’t disclosing any data such as the test settings or configurations used here, but if these findings are accurate, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D might become just as popular in the retail segment as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The AMD Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache CPUs will be available in stores in February 2023.
