The Super Cup is a knockout tournament in Indian football. The clubs from the Indian Super League and the I-League take part in the tournament. The competition was inaugurated by AIFF in 2018 and Bengaluru FC were crowned the champions in the inaugural edition. FC Goa won the Super Cup in 2019 and are the reigning champions as the 2020 and 2021 editions were suspended due to COVID-19 and now the tournament is all set to make a return in 2023.

AIFF has included the Super Cup knockout tournament in the 2023 calendar and it is now scheduled to be held in April 2023. The top six clubs from the Indian Super League and the I-League get direct entry into the Round of 16, while the remaining 4 positions are filled by the remaining clubs from ISL and I-League through qualifiers. However, as the teams have increased, it remains to be seen if the format is changed.

Kerala has been reportedly shortlisted to host the tournament in 2023. The matches of the Super Cup 2023 are expected to be played in three venues with the two of them being JLN stadium, Kochi and Payyanad Stadium, Manjeri.

The current Indian domestic season follows Durand Cup to ISL to Super Cup as the Indian clubs must play at least 27 games over eight months in a domestic season to earn eligibility for future AFC club competitions. With the inclusion of the Durand Cup and Super Cup, the Indian teams will now be playing at least 28 games in a season due to the new format.
