At CES 2023, OLED gaming displays are ubiquitous, and Samsung’s lineup is no exception. The Odyssey G95SC monitor was unveiled, a 49-inch device that the manufacturer claims are the world’s first 32:9 aspect ratio OLED gaming panel. It also reminded us that the Odyssey 34-inch G8 QD-OLED display, which debuted last autumn at IFA 2022, will be available “very soon.”

These two models differ from what LG just revealed in that they use Samsung’s QD-OLED technology rather than LG Display’s newest screens.

The new 49-inch Odyssey G95SC from Samsung has a super-wide 32:9 aspect ratio that expands to 5,120 x 1,440 resolution with a 1800R curve. This device offers a rapid refresh rate of 240Hz. It will be available later in 2023, with no price tag attached for the time being.

The Samsung Odyssey G8 has a little lower spec sheet, but it has a similar screen to Alienware’s outstanding QD-OLED gaming monitor from 2021.

It shares major specifications like as the 34-inch size, 21:9 aspect ratio, 1800R curvature, 3,440 x 1,440 resolution, and 175Hz refresh rate. Both of these monitors, according to Samsung, support HDR True Black 400, a VESA certification that indicates they can reach 400 nits of peak brightness.

However, depending on what you watch on them, they may give lower brightness in practice. The Alienware QD-OLED monitor, which has the same True Black standard as these new Samsung monitors, delivered closer to 280 nits while displaying an all-white screen during HDTVTest’s assessment (the most brutal challenge for an OLED).

These displays are intended for use with powerful consoles and PCs, but they also feature Samsung’s Gaming Hub, which allows you to wirelessly connect a controller to play on cloud streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. They also have Smart Hub, via which they may access smart TV apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and others. Both have Mini DisplayPort, Micro HDMI 2.1, and USB-C charging capabilities of up to 65W.
