The i20 has consistently been a strong performer for Hyundai over the years. The current-generation model was introduced in 2020 and competes with vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza.
The Upcoming Hyundai i20 Facelift
In terms of the 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift, earlier this year in May, Hyundai introduced a facelifted version of the i20 in international markets, and it is now in preparation for its launch in India. The degree of similarity between the India-specific i20 facelift and its international counterparts remains to be seen. While there aren’t major changes to the exterior, some subtle updates are noticeable, including a refreshed grille and slightly tweaked bumper design.
The bumper now features arrow-shaped inlets instead of the previous triangular-shaped housing. The headlamps and DRLs remain unchanged, but the Hyundai logo has been relocated from the grille to the lower part of the bonnet. The bonnet design remains the same, and the side profile closely resembles the current model, albeit with a new set of alloy wheels.
At the rear, Hyundai has made minor adjustments to the faux diffuser and bumper, as well as repositioning the reflectors. The taillights remain unchanged, but there may be some new color options introduced for the 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift. The dual-tone color schemes enhance the overall appearance with blacked-out pillars, roof, and rear-view mirrors.
While the basic interior layout remains largely unchanged, some significant equipment upgrades are anticipated, including a dual dashcam, paddle shifters, and an updated digital instrument console. Paddle shifters are already available with the N Line variant of the i20, and the seats will feature a new theme. Additionally, to address growing concerns about car safety, Hyundai may equip the i20 with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
The European version of the new model has already received ADAS, and if offered, it would likely be available in the top-spec variants. If it indeed comes with ADAS, the i20 will become the first mainstream hatchback in India to feature this technology. These updates will also be introduced with the N Line variant.
Regarding engine options for the 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift, they will remain the same as the current model. The lineup includes a 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 83 PS of maximum power and 114.7 Nm of peak torque when paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. With the IVT gearbox, power output slightly increases to 88 PS. Another engine option is the 1.0-liter turbo petrol unit, which generates 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DCT transmission.
