Neymar cleared of all corruption charges for Barcelona transfer

Neymar has been cleared of all corruption charges following a trial in a Spanish court. The winger was involved in a legal issue regarding his transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.

The case was brought forth by Brazilian company DIS, who claim that they were cheated out of money from the transfer because it’s value was understated. The company reportedly owned 40% of the player’s sporting rights while he was still playing for Santos. However, this has been proved false in court.

Neymar cleared of all charges for Barcelona transfer

The Brazilian was signed under the reign of Josep Bartomeu as president – who was one of those charged with the wrongdoing. Neymar’s parents, Santos, Barcelona, and the play himself have all been cleared of the charges placed against them since October, before the start of the World Cup.

The company wanted a five-year jail term for Neymar and also requested jail terms for Rosell and Bartomeu, the presidents of the two clubs at the time, and a total fine of €149m fine for the defendants. However, Spanish prosecutors wanted a two-year prison term for Neymar and the payment of a €10 million fine, plus a five-year jail term for Rosell and an €8.4m fine for Barcelona.

The player has since moved to PSG in what remains the most expensive transfer of all-time in football. He recently bowed out of the World Cup with Brazil, in what could be his last appearance at the grand tournament.
