The rumored-to-be-imminent Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti, the third Lovelace product, has seen a spec leak – and the obvious lesson is that it’s similar to the cancelled RTX 4080 12GB. The alleged specifications were highlighted by VideoCardz and come directly from a card maker, Colorful, which featured the RTX 4070 Ti BattleAx Deluxe on its website. Although the product page has since been removed, it had most of the BattleAx card’s specifications as well as photographs.
The graphics card is black with red trim but otherwise appears quite plain, and it uses the same cooler as the RTX 4080 16GB – which is telling in terms of the similarities to the cancelled 12GB 4080.
Furthermore, as previously stated, the specifications offered are same. The Colorful RTX 4070 Ti contains 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM and a 192-bit memory interface and works at the same clock speed as the ‘unlaunched’ 4080 12GB (2310MHz base clock). TDP is specified as 285W, which is identical to the cancelled lower-tier 4080.
While this leak appears to be rather reliable, coming from an actual card manufacturer and packed with a slew of photos of the RTX 4070 Ti BattleAx Deluxe, we should be cautious about the specifications offered. There’s a chance that whoever created the product page made a mistake – after all, the page’s appearance appears to have been an accident – or perhaps several mistakes (across multiple spec points), but that doesn’t seem very likely.
Taking this leak at face value, it tells us that Nvidia appears to be relaunching the RTX 4080 12GB as the RTX 4070 Ti, and while we knew this was coming, we expected some minor changes to separate the versions. It looks that this is a literal relaunch of the exact same card.
However, one critical component of the specification is missing: the CUDA Core count. The AD104 was achieved as the full-fat version with all 7,680 cores in the 4080 12GB, so we don’t know if the RTX 4070 Ti will be the same.
There is still a chance that Nvidia will differentiate the 4070 Ti by reducing the number of CUDA Cores marginally. The way, Team Green can claim, “Look, this card is different from that cancelled 4080,” and Nvidia can justify lowering the price from the $899 that the lower-tier 4080 was marketed at.
