World Cup Group G: Brazil and Switzerland make it through to last 16

Switzerland defeated Serbia in a thrilling fixture to seal their spot in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup. The two European sides played out a first half scoring two goals each, with no shortage of entertainment.

However, Switzerland had the last laugh with a 3-2 win over Serbia. Although Cameroon were able to defeat Brazil, it was not enough for them to go through as the Swiss had earned six points themselves.

Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for Serbia in the first half itself. But, goals from Swiss talisman Xherdan Shaqiri, Breel Embolo and Remi Freuler were enough to help them earn three essential points to go through.

Freuler’s goal came early in the second half, and helped the team have an advantage to defend for over 40 minutes.

Brazil fielded a drastically changed line-up, having already qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup. And they were unable to get the better of Cameroon to make it three wins out of three. They will be facing South Korea in their Round of 16 tie, while Switzerland will face Portugal.
