Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The decision comes as a surprise to the people at the club, as it has only been months since he replaced Michael Edwards in the role.

Ward has been at the Merseyside club for more than a decade since joining from Manchester City. There are no qualms about Ward’s commitment to the club, as he has been allowed to remain in his role until the end of the season.

Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward on his way out of the club

What was once a steady and sustainable scene at Liverpool has now turned quite uncertain. The departure of two sporting directors in quick succession could leave the club re-evaluating whether they will continue with their current model for the future

Prior to becoming the sporting director himself, Julian Ward was the loan and pathways manager. He also served as Michael Edwards’ assistant at one point. Head of recruitment, Dave Fallows, and the chief scout, Barry Hunter will continue their positions at the club next year.

Ward is expected to take a break from football upon leaving Liverpool. There has been no explanation given by him for the decision, but he will not be joining any other club right now.
