Luis Suarez turns down Gremio transfer with MLS move expected in 2023

Luis Suarez is currently without a club, after leaving his boyhood club, Nacional, after the expiry of his contract. The striker scored eight times in 16 matches during the last season, and was able to net a brace against Liverpool to help Nacional win the Primera División championship.

The forward was linked with a move to Brazilian club Gremio following his spell with Nacional. However, he has turned down their offer in hopes of a project that better aligns with his ambition right now.

Luis Suarez turns down Gremio in favour of potential MLS switch

“We made him an offer, which he turned down. Suárez was very grateful because it was a very generous offer, but his plan is to play in MLS. Our offer was higher than the ones he’s received from MLS, but it’s a life project for him,” said Gremio president Alberto Guerra.

While it isn’t from the player himself, Guerra might just have confirmed where we will see the former Barcelona, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid man play.

Luis Suarez has been picked to play in the Uruguay squad for the 2022 World Cup alongside Edinson Cavani, in what will likely be the last time for both iconic forwards at the competition. Uruguay head into the World Cup as dark horses, in a very difficult group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Ghana.
