Senegal captain Sadio Mane is expected to miss the World Cup with an injury sustained in the 6-1 win over Werder Bremen. The Bayern Munich winger was replaced by Leroy Sane after he felt his tibia, and the injury has been confirmed by the Bundesliga side on their official website.

“Sadio Mane suffered an injury to his right fibula during FC Bayern’s 6:1 win against Werder Bremen. ‘Africa’s Footballer of the Year’ is out for the match against FC Schalke this Saturday,” the statement reads. ”Further examinations will follow in the next few days, FC Bayern will exchange information with the medical side of the Senegalese Football Association.”

Sadio Mane out of the World Cup?

Official Bayern statement on Sadio Mané 🚨🇸🇳 #WorldCup2022

The former Liverpool star’s absence will be a huge blow to Senegal’s ambitions to do well in the World Cup. The statement released by Bayern Munich does not completely rule him out for the World Cup. It simply states that he will be unavailable for the clash against Schalke.

But there isn’t enough time for him to make a full recovery ahead of the tournament as of right now, leaving his hopes of making it to Qatar in jeopardy. It now remains to be seen whether an official statement confirming his absence from the squad will be released by the Senegal football board or by his club.
