Samsung introduces fastest ever LPDDR5X DRAM

Being a global leader in the mobile DRAM market for more than a decade, Samsung is bringing high-end smartphones into the mainstream, allowing more consumers to experience powerful computing performance on their mobile devices. LPDDR DRAM uses less power and provides higher performance which is becoming increasingly widespread in modern computing systems, expanding into smartphones and PCs, high-performance computing (HPC), servers, and automobiles.

Daniel Lee, Executive Vice President of the Memory Product Planning Team at Samsung Electronics said: “The joint validation of 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM has enabled us to accelerate market-wide availability of this high-speed memory interface by more than a year, which is a tremendous accomplishment made possible through our long-standing collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies.”

“As LPDDR memory continues to broaden its usage beyond smartphones into AI and data center applications, strong collaboration between memory and SoC vendors is becoming all the more important. Samsung will continue to actively engage with innovators like Qualcomm Technologies to enhance ecosystem readiness for future LPDDR standards,” he added.

Although the LPDDR5X technology is not new, it has seen some innovations even with the minimal internal redesign. The LPDDR5X technology is currently used in some smartphones but the new chips expand the utility and performance of the technology. It is a low-power consumption technology that delivers high performance. The LPDDR5X memory will achieve higher speeds with minimal internal redesigning. It is well suited for applications outside smartphones like PCs, servers, automobiles, and more. Samsung says the market availability of the chips was accelerated by more than a year following its collaboration with Qualcomm.
