IND-W vs ENG-W: England won the first T20I match by 9 wickets

England defeated India smoothly by 9 wickets. Dunkley Glenn‘s aggressive batting helped the hosts win the game in thirteen overs. England leads the game from 1-0.

It was a dominant show from England’s side in their first T20I of the three-match series as they crashed India by 9 wickets. Sophia Bunkley was impressive as she scored 61 runs and Sarah Glenn sealed the win with a four with a sensational victory for the hosts. India had failed in all three departments as they couldn’t match the intensity of the game. The only positive thing for India was Deepti Sharma’s batting as she mustered 29 runs off 24 balls to take India to post 132 runs.

England had a target of 133 to win and had been in great trouble with Sophia Dunkley edging one to Richa Ghosh. Both Renuka Singh and Shafali Verma dropped catches that benefitted the hosts.

The sloppiness in their fielding allowed the Indian team smash 52 runs in the first six overs itself. Richa Ghosh took Wyatt’s wicket in the first over after powerplay. Alice Capsey continued with his aggressive batting and took the advantage of India’s poor fielding.

Capsey and Dunkley together had a partnership of fifty runs in just 26 balls and the later even reached her half-century. Earlier, England’s skipper Amy Jones won the toss and elected to bat. Everyone had high expectations from Smriti Mandhana but she couldn’t survive for long as the English spinners took control of the game. Verma and Hemalatha couldn’t survive for long as well.

The visitors desired to post a total of 150 with Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh being still strong. Both the players got dismissed in the 18th over and couldn’t post the total they desired. Deepti Sharma’s 29 runs did take India to 132 but still it couldn’t help them win.
