Breaking: BCCI official lashes out at former Indian captain Virat Kohli for his “lack of support” remark

Virat Kohli‘s latest press conference on Sunday created a controversy again. He stated how he didn’t get support from anyone when he had a tough patch. He claimed that apart from MS Dhoni nobody texted him after he stepped down from Test captaincy. However, a top official from BCCI contradicted Kohli saying ‘Everyone backed him, don’t know what he is talking about.’

“Virat has had backing of everyone. From his teammates to everyone at the BCCI. To say that he did not get the support, is not true. He was granted break to rejuvenate, he got frequent rest. Even everyone at BCCI wished him on social media when he stepped down from Test captaincy. So, I don’t know what he is talking about,”– A BCCI official said

Virat Kohli’s form dropped in recent times but he got back to it in the Asia Cup 2022. In the last match against Pakistan, he scored 60 runs in 44 balls. BCCI had a mixed feelings on whether to keep Kohli in the Playing XI or not. With his good form in the Asia Cup 2022, he fixed his place in the squad for T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s statement

I would only say this, when I left the Test captaincy, MS Dhoni was the only one among all the cricketers I had played with before who texted me. A lot of people have my number but he was the only one who texted me.

It comes from the genuine respect that we have for each other. There is no insecurity from either end in our equation. These things matter. I live my life with honesty and these things matter to me. I just want to say this, if I have to tell someone about their game, I reach out individually. Even if I have to reach out to them, I do it personally.

Even before the South Africa tour, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he had personally requested Virat Kohli not to step down as a T20 captain. This incident took place after he was removed from the ODI captaincy.

BCCI is happy that Virat has come back to his old form in the Asia Cup 2022.

“There is no bad blood between Kohli and anyone in BCCI. Everyone respects him for his contributions to Indian cricket. He is a very important player across all three formats. He has hit form at the right time. We only wish he continues that run. It will be crucial for Team India in Australia,” the BCCI official said.
