Top spenders in the transfer window: 7 Premier League teams among the top 10

The top spenders in the transfer window are mostly from the Premier League this season. The English clubs spent over €2.2 billion on signing players, exercising their financial strength in terms of acquisitions. 

In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the top ten spenders across Europe in the transfer window.

10. Wolves – $150.3 million 

The Midlands club have signed Matheus Nunes as their new record signing, while Goncalo Guedes, Nathan Collins and Hwang Hee Chan have also completed permanent moves to the club. Sasa Kalajdzic signed from Stuttgart but suffered an ACL injury 45 minutes into his debut

9. Bayern Munich – $151.2 million 

The Bavarians let go of Robert Lewandowski but signed Sadio Mane, Niklas Sule, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui. As a result, bolstering their squad for the coming season. 

8. Manchester City – $153.4 million 

City signed Erling Haaland as their top signing for the summer. They also recruited Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips, Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega to make up the numbers in their star-studded squad.

7. Paris Saint-Germain – $162.2 million 

Most of PSG’s signings have been in midfield, with Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz, Carlos Soler and Vitinha joining the club alongside Hugo Ekitike to provide balance to the team.

6. Barcelona – $168.3 million 

Barcelona are the top spenders in the transfer window from Spain, and have signed Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha, Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Marcos Alonso despite facing a lot of issues with their finances. 

5. Nottingham Forest – $178.1 million 

The presence of Nottingham Forest in the list of the top spenders in the transfer window is surprising, considering they came up from the Championship. But, they have added 21 new players to their squad, which is a record for a British team. 

4. Tottenham Hotspur – $186.9 million 

Spurs have recruited smartly this summer, adding more depth to their line-up. Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet and Destiny Udogie have all been signed for the season. 

3. West Ham United – $200.2 million 

West Ham United have made big moves in the transfer window, signing Lucas Paqueta for a record fee. They have also added Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Emerson, Thilo Kehrer, Alphonse Areola and Flynn Downes to challenge for Europe. 

2. Manchester United – $261.8 million 

After a disappointing start to the season, Manchester United started to emerge as one of the top spenders in the transfer window. They have signed the most expensive player of 2022 in Antony from Ajax. Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Martin Dubravka and Christian Eriksen are also among the players to have made the move to Old Trafford this summer. 

1. Chelsea – $310.2 million 

Under their new ownership, Chelsea have broken the record for the most money spent in a transfer window. And as a result, they are the top spenders in the transfer window in 2022. 

The Blues signed two defenders on record deals – Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana. They also signed Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Zakaria for the first team. On the other hand, Carney Chukuemeka, Omari Hutchinson, Cesare Casadei and Gabriel Slolina have also joined as part of their future project.
