With the transfer market closed, news of failed bids are now coming to the forefront. Ferran Torres could have been one of the names leaving Barcelona this summer due to a bid from Arsenal.

The Blaugranas recruited Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to bolster their forward line, and still have Torres to provide depth. They also have Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay among their ranks as rotational options if needed.

Ferran Torres could have joined Arsenal this summer

The Gunners have had a great transfer window this summer, signing Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos. Ferran Torres was also on their list by the looks of things, as they made a late €30 million bid to sign the Spain international.

While Barcelona did not outright reject the offer, Xavi was not prepared to lose the player this window. And as a result, a return to the Premier League did not happen for him even though it was close. He has worked before with Mikel Arteta at Manchester City, and would be a great addition to the lineup.

But for now, he will be fighting for a place in the Barcelona starting line-up at least until January when the transfer window opens up again. Arsenal also tried to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa on deadline day, but their offer failed to convince the Midlands club to sell.
