Xiaomi will ship over 7 million 5G smartphones in India

The launch of a 5G mobile network in India could happen in the coming months. It is estimated that it will take about two years for the 5G network to expand across the country. Despite this, the sales of 5G smartphones in the country are rapidly increasing. Ahead of the 5G rollout in the region, Xiaomi, the largest smartphone brand in the country, says that it has shipped over 7 million 5G smartphones in India from May 2020 to June 2022. 

India is the world’s second-largest smartphone market. There is a battle going on between mobile companies over who offers the cheapest 5G smartphone. Realme and Xiaomi have emerged as the biggest players, but people are also waiting for Jio’s 5G smartphone.

Last year, Xiaomi had slashed the prices of its devices amid continued competition in the 5G smartphone segment. Xiaomi’s first 5G smartphone in India was the Mi 10 5G. The handset was unaffordable for most Indians as it was introduced at ₹44,999. It was later followed by Mi 10T 5G and Mi 10T Pro 5G.

The company had offered a 5G smartphone as Redmi Note 10T 5G for Rs 13,999. In January 2021, Xiaomi kicked off the year with its most affordable 5G smartphone in the region to date: Mi 10i 5G. This handset started at ₹20,999. It was one of the best-selling 5G phones during its time in the market. Currently Poco M4 5G This is the cheapest 5G smartphone from the company’s independent Poco brand. The price is about Rs 10,999.

The recent models have almost all the required 5G bands. 5G services are launching in India sooner than might be expected. Regarding reports, two major telecom carriers, Reliance Jio and Airtel, may launch 5G services in the country by August end. The latest reports suggest that the Indian government will officially launch 5G at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) opening on September 29. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said that 5G would be launched in India sooner than expected.
