The Empress: Everything We know about Netflix’s new German series

Netflix has kicked off the new trailer of The Empress and also promising to complete the show with a Bridgeton-shaped hole in the scheduled viewing. The Empress is mainly an upcoming German Netflix Original historical drama show penned by Katharina Essen and also revolved around the early life and romance of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

The show just co-written by Bernd Lange, Janna Maria Nandik, and Lena Stahl. The co-directors are Florian Cossen and Katrin  Gebbe.

The Empress

The Empress: Plot 

The story of the show follows the rebellious Elisabeth who met Franz the Emperor of Austria, the intoxicating love between the young couple really upset the strength ay the Viennese court. After the marriage, the young empress not only just asserts herself against her power-hungry mother-in-law, but Sophie buys also become against brother of Franz, Maxi who just longing for the throne himself. While the entire enemy troops take form on the borders of the Habsburg Empire, the entire people of Vienna boost up to protest the emperor. Elisabeth must know whom she can trust, and what the cost is in order to develop herself as the true empress and the beacon of hope for the people. 

The Empress: Elisabeth von Wittelsbach 

Elisabeth von Wittelsbach was popular as the web of Emperor Franz Joseph and was a renowned Empress of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 

She was born into the royal Bavarian House of Wittelsbach, Elisabeth got married to him at the age of sixteen and early become settled into the life of the Habsbourg court that much has set to her disdain. 

During the years of her reign as Empress of Austria, Elisabeth was at the odds with her mother-in-law Archduchess Sophie who was taken it upon herself to bring up their grandchildren that reason the Empress was very young to rear several children at one time. After the protest to their husband, Elisabeth set to blame for the death of her oldest daughter, Princess Sophie who passed away due to high fever and diarrhea when traveling in Budapest, Hungary.  

As usual, the death of Princess Sophie, and the current aftermath would impact her mental health of Elisabeth for the rest of her life. Elisabeth did not become cruel but seemed unmotherly to all of her surviving children for the remaining life that was not influenced by Archduchess Sophie who also felt vindicated by the death of the princess that she, and not that Empress, rear the children. For her remaining life, Elisabeth used to keep a bracelet with the likeness of her daughter, and made a portrait in her apartments. 

She escaped to Hungary to escape from the court life, relax, and make such a close relationship with the people. Elisabeth’s relationship with Hungary benefits her to fetch the dual monarchy of 1867 on setting up the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 

Later, Elisabeth spent time travelling to escape from her melancholy and court life. It was very sad that Elisabeth was assassinated when she visits Geneva Switzerland. 

The Empress: Cast 

The film features Devrim Lingnau who is in the lead role of Elisabeth von Wittelsbach, Philip Froissart as Emperor Franz Joseph, Svenja Jung as Louise Jung, the other cast members are Raymond Tarabay as Ambassador De Bourque Ney Jonathan  Dailla as Robert Stephenson, Rudy Ruggiero as Von Eskeles, Irene Della Casa as Baronesse Francesca, and Simon Bubbel as Livree Ischi. 

The Empress: Release Date 

Netflix’s new trailer confirms that the film will hit on 29th September 2022.
