Stuart Broad joins the elite club of most Test wickets in a single ground

England’s star bowler Stuart Broad achieved a new height in the first Test series against South Africa. On the second day of the Test, he became the fourth bowler in the history of the format to have 100+ scalps in a single ground. He achieved this three-figure mark feat at the Lord’s and became the second bowler after James Anderson to achieve this.

Stuart Broad reached this feat after he picked South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verrynne’s wicket in the 63rdover of the innings. It’s reported that Broad’s teammate Anderson congratulated the cricketer first when he achieved this feat.

Sri Lanka’s former spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has achieved this in three different venues which is commendable. The venues are Colombo (156), Kandy (117), and Galle (111). Rangana Hearth from Sri Lanka has picked 102 wickets in Galle too. Anderson had 117 scalps in 27 matches in Lord’s. Stuart Broad made his England Test debut in 2007 against Sri Lanka and has taken a total of 553 wickets in the Test format. He’s the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the game and is only behind Glenn McGrath in this category.

He ended the first innings taking three wickets as the opponent team got bowled out for 326 runs. Marco Jansen could add seven more runs to his overnight score of 41 that kept England in the field for the first hour of the game. Anrich Nortje added 29 runs in the ninth wicket before his wicket was scalped by Stuart Broad.

Kagiso Rabada was out on the very third ball, as Broad took the brilliant catch.

England’s skipper ben Stokes had a bowling figure of 3/53. Stokes picked the wickets of Erwee, Erwee, Rassie van der Dussen and Keshav Maharaj.
