Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur: Fiery London derby ends in draw at Stamford Bridge

The London derby at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Tottenham ended 2-2, after a last-gasp header from Harry Kane salvaged a point for the visitors.

Chelsea’s new signing, Kalidou Koulibaly, opened his scoring account after a great strike from the edge of the box. The defender was left unmarked following a corner situation, and was able to convert the delivery from Marc Cucurella to make it 1-0. The visitors were not in the game at all, as Chelsea played confidently and aggressively.

Chelsea’s draw against Spurs reminds us of a script we’ve come to know all too well

Spurs changed to a 4-4-2 in the second half, and eventually got back on level terms. A shot from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg found the back of the net through the crowd to make it 1-1. Only 40 seconds before, Rodrigo Bentancur tackled Kai Havertz from behind and the decision was not given as a foul.

This resulted in a heated altercation between the two dugouts and managers. But, Chelsea were able to find the lead again courtesy of Reece James. They had several chances to extend their lead, but some poor finishing kept the scoreline as it was.

Their lack of clinical finishing came back to haunt them once again. Eventually, Spurs were able to get a corner in the final stage of the game, which was nodded on by Kane.

The Blues have dropped two points from a winning position, late in the game at Stamford Bridge, once again. Their home record hasn’t been up to the mark from the time Frank Lampard was in charge. And their collapse against Spurs was reminiscent of games last season where they let things slip in the final minutes, and ended up dropping points that they could’ve, and should’ve taken.
