IND-W vs Barbados-W: India enters the semifinals of CWG 2022

India defeated Barbados to enter the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022. India mustered a total of 162 runs with the help of Jemimah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma’s knocks. India’s pacer Renuka Thakur shined as she dismissed four players of the top order. The team won by 100 runs and is set to face England or New Zealand in the semifinals.

It was a very important game for team India to win this match but the team faced an early blow as star batter Smriti Mandhana got out very early. Shefali Verma tried her best supported by Jemimah Rodrigues. However, Shefali missed the fifty mark due to a lack of coordination. Smriti was dismissed at 5 (7)

The team faced another blow as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur got out on the very first delivery and Taniya Bhatia got dismissed very closely. Jemimah played the best of her potential which helped her score a half-century. Deepti Sharma stood a sold support but couldn’t make her fifty getting out at 34 runs.

Jemimah mustered 56 runs in just 46 balls that helping India to post the challenging total of 162 runs. Jemimah played in the middle order along with Shefali Verma and Deepti Sharma. Shefali could score 43 runs in 26 balls before she returned to the pavilion.

In the second innings, Renuka Thakur took charge of the top order. She dismissed Deadra Dottin followed by Hayley Matthews. She bagged Kycia Knight and Aaliyah Allyne’s wickets as well. Sneh Rana, Meghna Singh, Radha Yadav, and Harmanpreet Singh picked a wicket each, and Barbados on 62/8 after 20 overs. This victory is a major confidence boost to the Indian players.

Meanwhile, India’s allrounder Pooja Vastrakar returned to the squad after testing Covid negative. On the other hand, Taniya Sharma replaced keeper Yastika Bhatia.

The semifinal is all set to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on August 6, 2022.
