West Indies vs India 2nd T20I: WI edge past India to win low-scoring thriller

Prior to Avesh Khan’s final-over no-ball setting off a five-wicket victory that evened the five-match series against India, West Indies complicated an easy chase of 139.

As India’s bowlers tightened the screws in the middle overs, West Indies took it further. A total of 75 from 72 balls, with nine wickets in hand, changed to 27 off 18, and then to 10 off the last over. Devon Thomas took advantage of the free hit, though, and smacked a six followed by a four to end the chase.

Obed McCoy had the greatest bowling stats against India of any team in T20Is earlier in the day for the West Indies. With a demonstration of their newly discovered T20 strategy and a willingness to take enormous risks despite the loss of rapid wickets, the visitors offered another glimpse into the future.

After that, opener Brandon King scored 68 runs off 52 deliveries to ensure he controlled one end of the 139-run chase. After taking the first two wickets of the game in the third over, McCoy pushed India back in the dying overs, when he took four of his six wickets.

After reaching 104 for 4 in the 14th over and 138 all out with two balls remaining in their innings, India’s scoring significantly decreased as wickets dropped, with just 37 runs coming off the final seven overs.

Despite the early wickets, India continued to take opportunities throughout the powerplay, and the narrow boundaries at Warner Park complemented their aggressive mindset.

They scored 56 runs off the first six overs while hitting just one four and five sixes. The exciting start to the innings came to an end in the seventh over when Rishabh Pant was bowled for 24 runs off just 12 balls. After that, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja went into rebuild mode and added 43 runs off of the same number of balls.
