RB Leipzig 3-5 Bayern Munich: Eight-goal thriller ends in Bayern’s 10th DFL Supercup

Bayern Munich defeated RB Leipzig 5-3 to win the DFL Supercup for the tenth time in their history. A dominant first half performance was followed by a resurgence from the DFB Pokal winners, but eventually, die Roten were able to claim the win in an exciting game.

Julian Nagelsmann faced his former employers in the curtain raiser for the 22/23 season. Moreover, Marcel Sabitzer and Dayot Upamecani also faced their former teammates in RB Leipzig to crown the winners of the Supercup.

The second half saw RB Leipzig come back with renewed drive, and Marcel Halstenberg opened the scoring for them. But, Serge Gnabry finished another team effort from Bayern to re-establish their three goal lead.

Christopher Nkunku converted a penalty for a foul on Dani Olmo, before the Spaniard netted late himself. However, a goal from Leroy Sane in the eighth minute of injury time ended all hopes for a sensational comeback from the Red Bull club.

Bayern will now face Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt in their first match of the Bundesliga while Leipzig face Stuttgart.
