Frenkie de Jong transfer yet to be confirmed despite €85m fee agreed

Manchester United and Barcelona have reached an agreement over the transfer of Frenkie de Jong. The two clubs have finalised a fee worth €85 million for the midfielder. Of that amount, €75 million will be paid upfront while the remainder will be available in the form of add-ons.

However, the problem is that the player does not want to move from Camp Nou. He has had talks with Erik Ten Hag over a reunion at Old Trafford, but he is owed €20 million in wages by the Spanish side. He wants the situation sorted completely before he accepts a transfer away.

Frenkie de Jong transfer situation remains complicated

He will be happy staying at Barcelona for the coming season even if the transfer falls through. The Dutchman is also unlikely to take a wage cut in order to stay with the La Liga side for the long-term. As a result, it seems like the transfer saga will drag on late into the window before a solution is achieved.

Barcelona have signed three new players so far in Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha. They have also renewed the contract of Ousmane Dembele, who has taken a pay cut. Moreover, they are also expected to launch an offer for Robert Lewandowski this summer.

As a result, Frenkie de Jong has chances of remaining at the club even after the long drawn discussions between the two clubs.
