Novak Djokovic has won the men’s singles title at Wimbledon 2022, defeating Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the finals. The Serbian has now matched Pete Sampras for seven Wimbledon titles, with only Roger Federer having more, with 8 to his name.

The Australian was able to take the first set in the game after a double fault from the Serbian. However, the second set was taken by Djokovic after he broke the serve, and was able to maintain a stronghold on the game thereafter.

The final set went to a tie breaker, and with several early points for Djokovic, Kyrgios was overpowered. The world number 1 was able to claim his 21st Grand Slam title, moving past Roger Federer in the all-time rankings.

Andy Murray was the last person to beat the 35-year-old at the Centre Court back in 2013. Since then, he has been able to make a mark every single time he has stepped up to the big occasion.

Here is what Novak Djokovic had to say upon his presentation as the winner of the 2022 edition of the tournament: “I (am) lost words for what this trophy means. It has always been and always will be the most special tournament. Realising a childhood dream in winning this trophy. Every year it gets more meaningful, I am really blessed. The most special court in the world. I am extremely happy and grateful to be here.”
