FIFA World Cup 2022: Stadiums are likely to be alcohol-free

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is likely to run completely alcohol-free at the stadiums as the host Qatar is unlikely to break its culture.

Qatar is ready to organize the FIFA World Cup 2022 from 21st November and 18th December 2022. All the 32 teams are confirmed for participation in the upcoming 22nd edition of the FIFA WC. There are huge demands for the tickets for this most reputed international football competition.

The upcoming Qatar World Cup is definitely going to be a different experience for the footballers, teams and fans.

Some media reports have already claimed that a one-night stand during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar could result in jail for several years due to the strict law in the country on sex outside marriage. There are also concerns about the party culture or LGBT rights.

Recently, Reuters has reported that the Qatar stadium stands during the upcoming FIFA World Cup will be alcohol-free. The report further added that beer would be only permitted to sell outside arenas before and after some matches.

A source told Reuters, “At stadiums, the plans are still being finalised, but the current discussion is to allow fans to have beer upon arrival and when leaving the stadium, but beer won’t be served during the match or inside the stadium bowl.”

Qatar is known for strict laws. Though the country is open-heartedly welcoming everyone for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022, they don’t want to break their own culture.

Though Qatar is not a completely dry country, drinking alcohol in public places is illegal in the country.

But, during the upcoming WC, the fans can buy beer during restricted times in some parts of the main FIFA fan zones.

The source added, “Unlike previous World Cup fan zones, the beer won’t be served all day long, but at restricted times.”

Fans can also get alcohol for drinks from some kilometers away from the stadiums and main fan zone. The report suggested that the availability of those alcohols can be for 15,000 to 20,000 fans.

A spokesperson for the organisers has clarified the Reuters about the situation of alcohol presence in Qatar, especially targeting the forthcoming FIFA WC.

The spokesperson claimed, “Alcohol is already available in designated areas in Qatar, such as hotels and bars, and this will not change in 2022. With the aim of catering to visiting fans in 2022, alcohol will be available in additional designated areas during the tournament.”
