In the current fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, India produced a great comeback against England to register 338 runs with the loss of seven wickets on the first day. Rishabh Pant put in a stellar performance, scoring 146 runs from 111 balls.

When Pant and Jadeja stepped up to the plate and put up 222 runs for the sixth wicket, India was in trouble at 98 for five. Before the first day’s stumps were called, Jadeja was still undefeated on 83, while Pant ultimately lost his wicket to Joe Root.

After England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bowl in the game, James Anderson and Matthew Potts held India in check by claiming three and two wickets, respectively.

Ravichandran Ashwin was passed over in favor of Jadeja to start the game. In contrast, Cheteshwar Pujara began the batting for India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, however he only managed 13 runs before losing out to James Anderson.

Rishabh Pant hits a century to help team India make a comeback

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, yet again struggled to find form as he could only manage 11 runs before being dismissed by Matty Potts. Jasprit Bumrah, who is prominent figure in the squad, captains team India after Rohit Sharma once again tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

England recently defeated New Zealand 3-0 by playing an aggressive style of cricket led by Ben Stokes, demonstrating their excellent form.
