Manchester City skipper Fernandinho will be joining Atlético Paranaense as a free agent when his deal with the club runs out in the coming days. He has agreed a two-year contract with the Brazilian side, and will be returning to his home country now that his challenge in Europe is over.

The player spent nine years with the Sky Blues since joining them from Shakhtar Donetsk for €40 million. Since then, he has been able to establish himself as a key player in the squad. Over the course of these years, he has won six League Cups, five Premier League titles and one FA Cup.

Fernandinho to return to Brazil in the coming days

The defensive midfielder extended his contract with the club following Manchester City’s defeat in the Champions League final in 2021. The club wanted to renew his deal further, but he wanted to return to Brazil. Despite Pep Guardiola’s efforts, the player had made up his mind and is now set to return back home.

Interestingly, Fernandinho started his career with Athletico Paranaense, and will, in all likelihood, be ending his career with them as well. The official announcement for his return will be made in the coming days when his deal officially runs out.

The Premier League champions have signed Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as his replacement. And they will be confirming his arrival in the coming days, once everything has been finalised to make the official presentation.
