Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contract of talented youngster Florian Wirtz for another year. The attacking midfielder’s new contract runs until 2027, ensuring that he will stay at the club this summer. There is no release clause included in his new contract.

The 19-year-old is among the brightest talents in Europe, and scored seven league goals and provided ten more assists in 24 Bundesliga games. However, his season was cut short by a nasty knee injury, which is expected to keep him out until the winter break.

“The boys here are an important reason why I feel at home here and why everything’s gone so well overall,” Wirtz said. “There’s a lot more to come from us and this club. That’s what we want to show all Bayer fans – and also those that aren’t!

“The development over the last couple of years has been breathtaking for me, and certainly not something I could have anticipated. I’m well aware that the team has played its role in that.”

While Florian Wirtz has signed a new deal, top clubs across Europe are expected to have a bidding war for him next summer. The German has attracted interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United in the past, and will no doubt be one to watch in the market in the coming season. Bayer Leverkusen have also extended the contract of Patrik Schick, setting them up for an exciting new season.
