Benfica have agreed the signing of David Neres from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. The player will be making the move once his medical assessment has been completed. He will be signing a contract until 2027 with the Portuguese club.

The winger will provide solidity to the front line now that Darwin Nunez has moved to Liverpool. However, since Nunez operated as a centre-forward, he won’t be replaced directly.

David Neres to join Benfica in the summer transfer window

The Brazilian left Ajax in the January transfer window to join Shakhtar. But due to the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he was unable to make a single appearance for his new club in an official competition due to the suspension of the league. He did make seven appearances in friendlies, and will now be moving on.

Despite having a contract with the Ukrainian club until 2026, David Neres will be cutting his stay short and will be moving to the Portuguese league. The transfer is expected to be made official in the coming days.

On the other hand, Everton Cebolinha will be joining Brazilian club Flamengo on a transfer worth €13 million as the Portuguese club aims to raise more funds for transfers ahead of the new season. The Brazilian completed his second season with Benfica in 2022 after having excelled at Gremio.
