Bernardo Silva

Barcelona manager Xavi is considering Bernardo Silva as the big transfer target in midfield this summer. He had a meeting with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, recently. And the Manchester City man was one of the top names discussed.

However, due to the financial constraints placed on the Spanish side, it will not be possible for them to sign the Portugal international unless they trim their wage bill or sell an important player like Frenkie de Jong.

Bernardo Silva a potential target for Barcelona

Been told the main name mentioned in the meeting between Barcelona and Jorge Mendes yesterday night was Bernardo Silva. Xavi, big fan. 🇵🇹 #FCB

Man City will set a huge price tag for Bernardo. It’s not a possible deal for Barça, as of now – only in case Frenkie de Jong leaves.

Manchester United have been in contact with Barcelona over the signing of Frenkie de Jong. The midfielder is prioritising Champions League football, which United will not be able to offer him. So, even if the two clubs can reach an agreement on personal terms, it will be very difficult for the Premier League side to convince the player to make the switch since he is happy at Barca.

This summer, Xavi’s side will have to let players go to reduce the wage bill. Otherwise, they will not be able to sign any new players. Even agreed free transfers like that of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie will only be possible when the wage bill has been reduced.

Manchester City will also demand a huge fee for Bernardo Silva, who is one of their top players. As a result, it is very difficult for Barcelona to push for the Portuguese midfielder unless they can sanction a move for de Jong.
