Apple Watch 8 Series can potentially save your life

Apple has just recently concluded its WWDC 2022 or Worldwide Developer Conference wherein it announced two new MacBooks powered by the new M2 chip. Ahead of the launch schedule, the company had also obtained clearance for a brand new feature for the Watch 8 Series that can potentially save lives.

Apple’s watchOS 9 will arrive with biomonitoring features:

The Cupertino giant unveiled the latest watchOS 9 during the WWDC, this new upgrade will arrive with multiple new features such as a biomonitoring sensor for AFib burden detection (Atrial Fibrillation). The company claims that your Apple Watch will now be able to detect irregular rhythm by monitoring the heartbeat of the person. These irregular movements in one’s heart are indicative of AFib.

An AFib usually happens when the lower and upper chambers of the heart do not beat together. The new Watch 8 Series that is expected to launch later this year will monitor how often a person is in a state of atrial fibrillation over a set period of time. Sources have stated that the FDA has given the iPhone maker clearance for this particular feature.

When the smartwatch ships, it will be saving lives as this particular condition affects nearly 9 percent of the population above the age of 65 years or older and 2 percent of the population below 65 years of age. The unfortunate thing is that those impacted by AFib never experience any symptoms and when it is often left untreated, it leads to the risk of heart failure or a stroke.
