Joe Root joins the elite club of batsmen who have surpassed the 10,000 runs mark in Test cricket

Joe Root completed 10,000 runs in Test cricket in the match that England played against New Zealand. Joe Root stepped down as a captain since he wanted to focus more on his batting, thus the captaincy went to Ben Stokes.

When Joe Root cut Tim Southee for a pair in England’s 77th run at Lord’s, he achieved his 26 century in Test and became the 14th player to score 10,000 in Test cricket. The 10k score came on his 218th run, meaning there are 9 other people who have reached it in fewer runs before him.

He made his debut with just a few weeks to go before his 22nd birthday, along with England’s test cricket match count, meaning others hit the mark in the number of plays less. The root is the fastest with 10,000 runs in terms of time and is the youngest player to achieve this. Alastair Cook from his country was also 31 years and 157 days old when he hit the milestone.

From 2021, he has been scoring a lot of runs once again. He mustered 2192 runs in the last 21 tests at 56.20. England had a pathetic season in Ashes 2021-22 when he averaged just 32.20 in 10 innings. In 21 games, he had an average of one in 2.3 Tests compared to his career average of one in every 4, 5.

Root is also the first among the current Fab Four to get to 10,000 runs. This, as mentioned, is a function of the number of games played in the UK. Kane Williamson played 87 Tests that came out a few years before Root. Since Root’s launch, England played 120 Tests.

Joe Root lowest overseas average of 46.47 and is the second among these four after Steven Smith’s 57.06. Both Williamson and Kohli have poorer records when they’re playing away from home. Root has an average of 52.93 while the other three average more than 60.

Root is in 14th position in terms of overall Test aggregate, but he is on top among active players.
