IPL 2023: What are the 3 possible rule changes coming into effect in the next IPL season?

IPL 2022 ended on May 29 in which Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals and won the IPL season in their debut itself. BCCI made a few changes in IPL 2022 and for the next edition, the board is considering making some more transformations, particularly three.

Let’s have a look at those three transformations that BCCI will introduce in IPL 2023.

1 . One Extra fielder outside the boundary in slog overs

BCCI has announced a Mandatory power play on the first 6 overs allowing only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. Batters get the opportunity to make the most of their defensive limits early in the innings. In order to level the field, one needs to allow additional fielders on the ropes in the range of 16-20. Currently, five outfielders are allowed out of the ring after the first six overs. With additional fielders, Batters can about taking the aerial routes easing the bowlers to pick wickets. This will actually act as an advantage for the bowlers.

2. A substitute fielder will be on the field for just three overs

In this new change, a substitute fielder will be on the field for just three overs until and unless a player is injured. The fielder can’t remain on the pitch after 3 overs. This is definitely a debatable change since several teams get their best fielders on-field not giving chances to others. The fast bowlers generally return to the pavilion after an over and a better fielder comes to the ground.

3. Batting team will get bonus runs if there is a slow over-rate by the bowling team

A bowling team has a specific time set to finish the 20 overs in the league. If the team fails to do so, they get penalized for the slow over-rate. According to IPL’s code of conduct, the bowling team’s skipper is fined 12 lakh for the first offence. 24 lakhs if it’s repeated and the remaining players have to pay six lakhs or 25% of their match fees. Since the offence took place on the cricket ground, the teams had to be penalized on the field itself. If a bowling team maintains a slow pace during a round, the batting team will be awarded points. This seems unfair to the pitchers, but it will force the captains to finish the game on time.
