Insomniac’s Spider-Man Games Series has made Sales of an absurd Number of Copies

Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series has sold an incredible number of copies in just a few years. When it comes to video games, the Spider-Man series has had its ups and downs.

Things were going well in the early 2000s when Activision translated the Sam Raimi trilogy into games and created original titles like Ultimate Spider-Man and Web of Shadows, but as time passed, Activision began to put less effort into it and didn’t give creators much time to work on these games.

Following the success of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games was tasked with creating a new Spider-Man game that was independent of the films, and it was a huge success, generating a spin-off featuring Miles Morales and a direct sequel for PlayStation 5.

Following the announcement that Marvel’s Spider-Man would be coming to PC, Insomniac Games stated through the PlayStation Blog that the first two entries in the series, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, had sold 33 million copies. This is no minor feat for only two games, the first of which was launched less than four years ago and is limited to a single platform.

For comparison, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sold 30 million copies on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, making it one of the most popular franchises. Although the series will be released on PC later this year, the fact that they were able to achieve such success with the character on PlayStation speaks volumes about the work Insomniac made for the character.

With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the road, the studio will probably continue to make huge and, ideally, maintain its string of critical successes.

In addition to Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games is working on Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set to release after the Spider-Man sequel. Sony and Marvel have put their faith in Insomniac’s work since they continue to entrust them with major projects.
